About DoomOff

DoomOff is a built-in browser for iPhone and Android that removes the engineered-addictive parts of YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Reddit. It hides Shorts, Reels, For You pages, and Explore grids, defaults feeds to chronological order, and adds daily time limits, without an account, a server, or any data collection.

Why it exists

The apps aren't the problem. The engineered-addictive parts are. Shorts, Reels, the For You page, Explore grids and promoted posts are built to keep you scrolling past the reason you opened the app.

Most tools respond by locking the whole app, so you turn them off by Thursday. DoomOff removes only the mechanics that pull you in and leaves messages, search, subscriptions and the people you follow working normally.

How it works

iOS and Android sandbox every native app, so nothing outside an app can change what it shows. DoomOff acts on the web versions of the sites inside its own built-in browser, where it can hide a Shorts shelf or default a feed to Following before the page renders. Opening a native app sends you into that browser instead. On Android, one Accessibility permission handles the redirect. On iPhone, a guided Shortcut does, or you can use an optional Safari extension. The full explanation is in why DoomOff redirects you into a browser, not an app blocker.

What it covers

  • Sites: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Reddit.
  • Devices: iPhone and Android phones. iPad and Mac are not supported yet.
  • LinkedIn: its chronological sort is an account setting stored on LinkedIn's servers, so DoomOff shows you where to set it instead of setting it for you.

What it doesn't do

DoomOff doesn't change the native apps, doesn't read your account, and doesn't send anything off your phone. There is no account, no analytics and no server. The details are in the privacy policy.

Who makes it

DoomOff is made by Decy Technologies Inc., founded by Matthew LaBarre. It costs $4.99 a year in the US, with a one-week free trial. The price differs by country. See the download page for details.

Questions, bug reports and broken toggles go to support@doomoff.com. When a site changes its layout and a toggle stops working, send the site and the toggle and it goes to the front of the queue.
